Breeding Philosophy
A quick word on my breeding philosophy. I am someone who has never felt that I couldn’t build a better mouse trap. This belief has fueled me to venture into many different areas throughout my life. Of the many things I have ventured into, DOGS are the one that has lasted pretty much all my life. Through this effort, I have met many like minded individuals. I have also read countless books on genetics and the breeding of dogs. One such book that stuck with me was a book regarding how the Germans breed dogs. This book mentioned a term called “Mother Line”. It is their belief that the mother dog (DAM), accounts for at least 70% of what the puppies will be. In other words, the female has the biggest impact on the litter. I have followed this philosophy for over forty years. I truly believe that this breeding plan works!
After finding a system that I felt would work, I then set out to produce dogs that I felt would better suit my needs. Shortly after starting my plan, my Uncle introduced me to yet another variable to be considered in my breeding plan. It was a yellow lab pup that he brought to me for training. He had purchased this pup out in South Dakota. As he got into his truck to leave he stated “Oh, this pup also points!” I found this pup to be very exciting, due to the fact, that she did point!
**I take no credit for creating the Labrador Retriever or the Pointing Lab. This was done many years before my involvement. I feel that I have benefited because of it. I have taken what was there and moved forward in my own particular way.
My hopes are you will take advantage of my breeding efforts. Be it a great hunting dog, a family pet or a dog you can include in your own breeding plans.
I tell folks that the PL is still evolving. They are one of the finest and most versatile dogs out there. Check em out, try a dog with BALANCE!
Thanks,
Curt Williams
